Too Cool!

I don't know who is happier; Eddie about his new quad, or Cody because he got both quads in the back of his truck. They were both pretty excited.

Here you see the supervisor checking the tiedown process. You can never be too careful.
The guys had a good time for the first time out with the "new" quad, and they and their quads came back in one piece and still running. A couple new dents had appeared on the back of the truck cab.........

A little slow...

To all of you who check in on the Blog regularly, I apologize. I am running a little behind. I skipped a few pictures between our Idaho vacation and Cody's senior picture but I really wanted to share this picture. I must admit, I actually cried when he came out in the tux. Anyway, I'll try to get back on track.

Who is this guy?!

All I can say is WOW! I am so proud of what a wonderful and, if I do say so myself, handsome young man Cody has become.

The Ultimate Sandbox!!!

Can you believe all this sand?! Which way do we go first?

Hey! Check this out; I'll bet you can't do this!

They get along so well when they're riding because they can't hear each other over the engine noise and with their helmlets on. With any luck they will always share their joy for riding as much as they do now. Even with the age difference, it's nice that they have their quads in common.

Getting Down to Some Serious Riding!!!!

There is so much riding to do at the Saint Anthony Dunes it is unbelievable. You can ride small dunes and tall dunes, and really big dunes, sandy trails, dirt trails, the '"staircases"; you can ride in the wide open or through trees, or you can even ride right up to the edge of Egin Lake right in the dunes!

It rained a couple of days making the sand a little more compact and easier for Shelby to high-mark the dunes...

Cody prefers doing tricks. It is very difficult for Cody to keep all four wheels on the ground at the same time...

.

We Have Arrived!

We finally arrived at our final destination. After a cummulative 13 and a half hours on the road, a near sleepless night in the Walmart parking lot in Burley, Idaho, and sweltering temperatures soaring well over 100 degrees we finally arrived at the sandy little plot of land and concrete pad that would be ours for the next week.

We quickly set up housekeeping. We unloaded all the quads, which would become our main form of recreation for the next several days, pulled out the awning for some protection from the afternoon sun, furnished the patio , and proceeded to just kick back. There is a time change when you leave Jackpot, Nevada and cross into Idaho; you lose an hour as the time jumps ahead to mountain time, so naturally we had to recover from jet lag! ....And if you believe that I have a little concrete pad I'd like to sell to you.

The Cool Down

It was a long hot trip. Once we reached our destination point we set up camp. Unfortunately, the local power company was experiencing rolling brown outs causing breakers to pop off and air conditioners to not function, so we took the kids to the canal up the road and let them cool off and release some of that repressed energy that comes from traveling.

Here Shelby demonstrates the faith she has in her big brother. We made more than one trip to the water hole to cool down.

Civil Defense Caves

Each year when we go to Saint Anthony for our annual sand getaway I try to find something of interest to do as a side trip. We have been to Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Tetons, Bear World, and taken numerous sightseeing drives. This year we went to an area in the desert abundant with lava tubes. One of the larger tubes is known as the Civil Defense Cave, though no one knows for sure why. When you first come upon it, it is hardly noticeable and as you walk up to it, it is fairly unspectacular. But then, as you reach the entrance, you realize just how incredible this cave really is, not to mention cold. The day we visited the cave it was 86 degrees as we descended toward the entrance, as we stood at the entrance we could actually see our breath. We also realized just how massive this thing is! If you click on the last picture to enlarge it you will see Dave and Cody venturing into the cavern. Shelby and I opted to wait on the outside where it was a little warmer and brighter. (We didn't have the right shoes on :( )

Master Tent Builders?

Cody's friend, Eddie, showed up and stayed with us over the fourth at Virginia Lakes, too. The guys decided to tent camp and went about getting it set up. As you can see, they picked just the right spot, no rocks, fairly level ground. They worked diligently pounding the stakes into the ground...

The ground actually turned out to be tougher than some of the stakes; as their metal bodies bent against the pressure.

I Think NOT!!!

No, master tent builders they are not! In fact, they finally gave up on trying to put the stakes into the ground altogether, and instead........

put rocks in each of the corners!
